YouTube Title: The Friend Who Always Made Her Feel Bad — And She Didn't Realise It Until Now Thumbnail Text: "She called it friendship. It was costing her everything." Topic: The friendships that slowly drain you Duration: ~4 minutes

Hello & Welcome to Rachel's Life Reflections

Picture a woman with a best friend she has known for many years.

They have been through everything together. The hard times. The big moments. The late-night phone calls. The kind of shared history that bonds two people in ways that are difficult to explain.

And if you asked this woman whether her friendship made her happy — she would say yes. Without hesitating.

But if she sat down quietly — truly quietly — and thought about it honestly...

She would notice something.

Every time she finishes a conversation with this friend — she feels a little worse than before she called.

She cannot quite explain it. Her friend is not cruel. There is no shouting. No obvious unkindness.

But when she shares good news — her friend changes the subject.

When she is excited about something — her friend finds a reason to be doubtful.

When she talks about her growth, her goals, her good days — something in the conversation always pulls it back down.

And she has gotten so used to this that she started doing something she did not even notice she was doing.

She started editing herself before every phone call.

Deciding which things are safe to share. Toning down her excitement. Hiding her wins. Making herself sound smaller — so the conversation stays comfortable.

She is managing her own joy so her friend does not feel uncomfortable with it.

She is shrinking herself — to protect someone else's feelings about her happiness.

One evening, she is with a different friend — someone lighter, someone newer — and she laughs. A real, open, unguarded laugh. The kind that comes from deep inside.

And she realises — she cannot remember the last time she laughed like that with her old friend.

That is the moment she understands.

Not every long friendship is a good one.

Some friendships have a quiet expiry date. Not because of a big fight. Not because anyone is a bad person. But simply because you grew — and the friendship did not grow with you.

A true friend celebrates your good news. A true friend does not need you to be smaller so they can feel comfortable. A true friend leaves you feeling better — not worse — after you talk.

Look at the friendships in your life. Not how long they have lasted. But how they make you feel.

You deserve friends who cheer for you. Loudly. Genuinely. Without hesitation.

Anything less than that — is simply not enough.
